Creating High Expectations (CHE) is a project funded by the Virginia Board for People with Disabilities and coordinated by Virginia Tech and VA Assistive Technology System Southwest Regional Site. The learning modules were developed by area educators to provide the resources necessary to engage interest and enhance the awareness of middle and high school students with disabilities, educators, and families in underserved areas of southwest Virginia. The modules offer information on transition strategies, opportunities, and resources available to students with developmental disabilities as they plan to achieve their post-secondary education goals.

Objectives

  1. To develop and field test transition engagement and transition preparation learning modules for middle and high school students and their families.
  2. To provide educators with teacher developed learning modules including transition lesson plans, activities, and resources for their students and the students' families.
  3. To integrate the learning modules into existing and new transition awareness activities and workshops in underserved areas.
  4. To encourage participation in college orientation experiences.
  5. To disseminate field tested transition engagement and preparation learning modules to educators and transition specialists.
