Introduction

These modules are designed to enhance learning experiences of high school and middle school students who attend regional transition awareness workshops such as New World Day at UVa-Wise, Real World Day at Radford University, or local transition events.  Curriculum writers developed pre and post transition workshop learning modules in career, leadership, and assistive technology. Each module is composed of a series of lessons tied to the middle (Secondary I) and high school (Secondary II) grade levels and the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL). These modules have teacher instructions, resources, and learning activities.  More specifically, each lesson includes essential questions, goals and objectives, a materials list, a pre-lesson assessment, the lesson, handouts, teacher resources, questions for reflection, universal design strategies, a post-lesson assessment, and a grade level SOL.  To provide additional information and enhance lessons, there are online transition and college resources.

The first sets of modules, pre-event, are to be used prior to attending a transition workshop so students will become familiar with the topics that they will learn about and know what resources are available to them. The post-event sets of modules are designed to prepare students to implement what they learned at the transition workshop.

All modules are available for reviewing and download in .html, .doc, and .pdf files.
